Pain Management
Millions of Americans suffer from acute or chronic pain every year. It affects more people than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. It can be associated with a wide range of injuries and, and is sometimes the disease itself. Some conditions may have pain and associated symptoms arising from a discrete cause, such as postoperative pain or pain associated with a malignancy, or may be conditions in which pain constitutes the primary problem, such as neuropathic pains or headaches.
The effects of pain exact a tremendous cost on our country in health care costs, rehabilitation and lost worker productivity, not to mention the emotional and financial burden it places on patients and their families. The costs of unrelieved pain can result in longer hospital stays, increased rates of rehospitalization, increased outpatient visits, and decreased ability to function fully, leading to lost income and insurance coverage. Pain Management is an integral part of our work at NWBS. Whenever possible pain will be handled through appropriate treatment and rehabilitation. Short-term and post-operative pain may be treated through medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, or analgesic medications. But occasionally, there may be a need to treat pain a bit more aggressively, and this will be discussed in depth with the patient and/or referring physician. Whatever the case may be, each one of our specialists is here for you for the long-haul and will take great pains to make sure that your pains disappear.
